If you are asking this, you probably don't have your own boat - feel comfortable that the price of the water taxi over there and back is worth it. No ferry or barge schedules, book it at the time that most suits you. He picks you up from Paradise Point and drops you straight to the pontoon on this fabulous property. The service is very reasonably priced and Steve's Water Taxis is a great friendly service.
What size boat do you accept on the pontoon?
The waterfront is deep sea and can handle large vessels. The pontoon is approved to handle boats up to 12m long and 4.4m wide, as shown at the bottom of the Gallery page.
How many people does it sleep, what are the bedding arrangements?
Refer to the "Home" page on this website for options and photos of each room in the Gallery page.
Are you close to the theme parks (SeaWorld, DreamWorld, MovieWorld etc)?
As the crow flies, yes! In terms of logistics, SeaWorld is the most accessible and can be readily accessed via a water taxi or your own boat to the marina nearby. Other theme parks are a water and land journey away. If the purpose of your visit to the Gold Coast is to visit the theme parks, you may be better staying on the mainland.
When was the house built?
2018, by the original owners, Paul and Lindy. Conrad purchased the house from Paul and Lindy in July 2025 and manages it for holiday letting purposes.
What do we do with the rubbish?
The same as you do on the mainland - we have Gold Coast City Council bin services every week. Bins are collected from the rear of the house, outsdie the garage, eachn and every Monday (and recycling every second Monday). Please put the bins out on the footpath on departure.
What is the history of Couran Point, aka South Stradbroke Island Waters?
Sir Bruce Small was the businessman behind Malvern Star bicycles, the Mayor of the Gold Coast (1967-1973 and 1976-1978), State member of Parliament (1972-1977), knighted in 1974 for his services to the Gold Coast and Queensland, and instigator of the Meter Maids - bringing tourists to Surfers Paradise and the Gold Coast's Glitter Strip. He was also an avid property developer, including converting swampland into the now famous canals of the Gold Coast around Paradise Point. He has nothing to do with this property development on South Stradbroke Island, apart from sharing the name of the developer that did!!
According to news reports, Mr Bruce Small (who the street on which this property is named) arrived to the Gold Coast in the 1980s, and in 1986 purchased a large 80 hectare parcel of freehold land on South Stradbroke Island, the only parcel of land that was zoned for tourist development.
In 1989, Ron Clarke (Lord Mayor of GCCC at the time) and his group purchased a freehold parcel of land of 54 hectares from Mr Bruce Small to create Couran Cove (which opened in May 1998). Bruce retained a much smaller holding around the resort land to build a residential village, now Couran Point, or South Stradbroke Island Waters (SSIW). The development was a $60 million residential and tourism estate - designed to include 62 waterfront residential lots, five dry docks, 200 marina berths and 100 resort units. It also included the Island Beach Club, which included a 250 seat restaurant and a 60 berth marina.
Prior to this, Mr Small's development history includes winning the tender for the Marina Mirage Gold Coast site in 1985 and teaming up with the now exiled entrepreneur Christopher Skase to undertake the project. However, architectural disputes and disagreements on the scale of the project led to the dissolution of the arrangement.
The "Small" family continue to own and operate a large portion of the land at Couran Point, including the property immediately to the east of this house, and kindly manage and supply the utilities that are available to this property.
